MONDAY through FRIDAY friends ! |
Then we have work/office – Adult Friendships. Those start on Monday and end on Friday. But then do they? Adult friendships are looked upon, cherished in a new light and with a different perspective. Yes, we may never do anything together or even see that fellow employee over the weekend but then Monday it starts all over again. But down deep we all have that someone, if needed, we know we could call on in a moment’s notice and they would not hesitate to come to our aid.
"That is friendship that can't be bought or even explained."
Friendship is about words, actions, feelings and deed. When it comes to finding friends, perhaps the first step we need to ponder is what is friendship exactly? Does it mean you have them as friend - Facebook status maybe? Not really.
A relationship needs to have some key elements in order to be labeled as friendship.
* A Personal Relationship that Is reciprocated * Be a friend yourself - "it’s not all about you actually" * Be truly interested in what they are talking about * Friends don't keep score * Trust – communication * Not being demanding on ones time * Expect the unexpected and unrealistic things. * Haven’t talk in days, weeks, months but when you do it’s as if you never missed a beat.
I have had the privilege to witness true friendships and be a part of a true friendship. When an employee mentors a younger employee, when an employee passes on knowledge, when an employee buys breakfast for another, when a impromptu gathering happens, when an employee makes a special kind of dessert for birthdays, when an employee’s spouse makes Christmas bread, when an employee shares goodies from the garden, when employees get together to play a game of golf or out to eat, when employees get together for a hike, when employees share their weddings, kids birthdays, when employees share pictures of family, when employees share grandchildren stories or when an employee buys something as simple as a jar of honey because it was the desire of another employees heart so he may have it for his wife - - these are things that triggers compassion and deep friendship ......"That is friendship that can't be bought or even explained."
Life is short and should be cherished. So I encourage each of us to take time to share simple things, kind words, drop a card, give a call, share moments of life every time you get a chance. Not only with family or close friends but with those "MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FRIENDS" because sometimes you spend more time with them than you actually do with your own family.
It’s 3:00 am and I find myself wondering if I have been that true friend. Nothing like having a friend as well as being a friend. So give of yourself today – you will actually be the one receiving the blessing!
Acts 20:35.......remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
Have a blessed day
